Inside the treasure box are items but what you get is determined by how much money you place inside the box. If you put 1 coin inside the box, you will highly likely recieve a Veltain Smith Hammer. If you put in 5,000,000 coins, you will recieve a random item other than a Veltain Smith Hammer. Think of 1 coin and 5,000,000 coins as your gauge. The more you put in towards that 5,000,000, the greater the chance of you getting an item aside from a Veltain Smith Hammer.
