A simple leaved plant with a single stalk adorned with a multitude of small white bloomsis reported to have been found, but I could find no ancient lore on such a flower. This flower, therefore, is a recent discovery of the depths of the Western Woods. Throttler the Dwarf has told me that the Wisps and Fae that reside there have told him much of this flower over his home-brewed mead. The Wisps say that when a being of pure light dies, it does not fade into darkness, for Light cannot be Darkness. Thus when the goddess Danaan gave her life to rid the lands of Chadul, her light was not snuffed, but shattered into a thousand thousand tiny points of light. These sparks of light radiated over the lands. The Fae say that this plant, not wanting the life-giving light to be lost forever, stretched a stem up into the air and caught the light as flowers on its stalk. Thus the denizens of the woods dubbed the flower 'Sparkflower', or commonly, 'Sparkweed', as the plant is in fact a freely-growing wildflower.
![]() Ill-Star Flower | |||
A seven-petaled stubby flower that lays close to the ground is a flower on which there is much lore. It is known as the 'Ill-star Flower', and dates back to the days after the drowning of Hy-Brasyl. When the first ill-star fell from the skies over Hy-Brasyl, legend says, the star fell to the earth and took root as this vile weed. It is quite a prolific plant, quite commonly found in the woods of Finach. It almost certainly obtained its 'evil' reputation from the fact that the flowers emit a vile, disorienting stench instead of the standard sweet armoa one would expect. This scent is the plant's way to attract flies to pollinate it, preferring them to bees.
![]() Bocan Bough |
A flowering bough of a tree is commonly found on the forest floors of Finach. This, surely, must be the sacred 'Bocan Bough' The Bocan Tree was named by the tuathas after their word for the Goblin Horde. This tree is the source of the wood those vile creatures use to craft their Wooden Clubs, Spiked Clubs and Hatchet handles. As such it is a very important and revered tree in Goblin culture. These boughs are used, as I understand it, to issue challenges between warriors of the Goblin ranks. How it is used to such an end I do not know, and I am not about to ask a Goblin to explain it to me.
![]() Dochas Bloom |
'A stately grayish flower standing proud atop a mighty stem.' More description is not needed, this is surely the 'Dochas Bloom', the flower of hope. When the armies of Rucesion descended upon Piet, the townsfolk thought their doom had come. However, the hero Tenes miraculously led the town to victory, with only minimal damage to the town. After the melee had passed, the Piet citizenry looked upon the field of battle. Rather than meet with the carnage they had wrought, the townsfolk's eyes met with a multitude of this proud flower waving in the winds. They named the flower after their newfound hope for a bright and peaceful future, hope for the resurrection of Hy-Brasyl.
![]() Lily Pads |
In the swamps of Mehadi the Mukul reevere the frogs of the life-giving waters. Lily pads are grown in the heart of the swamp to provide thrones for their holy amphibians to rest upon, providing respite. Perhaps the magic of the swamps can be transferred to Aislingkind as well.
![]() Cadal Bells |
In the forest of Shinewood, fallen trees can be found covered in clusters of tiny mushrooms. The songs lilting in the air of Shinewoods tell that when a mighty tree falls, the faeries of the woods gather and ring a melancholy tune of mourning on tiny faerie bells. These bells can be seen as the caps of these mushrooms, which are said by the Fae to soothe the restless spirit of the fallen wood in order to prevent the tree rising again as a Cursed Tree. Mushrooms touched by faerie magic are doubly dangerous. Great care should be used handling these fungal blooms.
![]() Raineach |
A particular fern is found in the Eastern Woodlands. The tuatha called them 'raineach'. The Fae of the woods are said to use these fronds to fan favorable winds upon their loved ones. Oh how I remember days gone by, resting in the vales of the wood, watching the faeries flutter to and fro waving these frond fans whimsically at each other. I was lucky enough to be caught in one such gust in my youth. I must admit, a most refreshing breeze comes from waving these leaves.
![]() Ao-dochas Bloom |
A midnight blue flower blossoming on a pure black stalk. This must be the sorrowful 'Ao-dochas Bloom', the flower of despair This is a plant that thrives and blooms only in utter darkness. Only in lands where hope has faded and darkness reigns can such a plant be found. Take great care when you spy such a flower upon the ground, for hope has forsaken the very soil upon which you tread.
![]() Lochran Tendrils |
Kasmanium Mines | ||
Ever wonder how light makes it deep in the dungeons of the world? The Dwarves have a unique solution. They grow a luminous vine they call 'Lochran Tendrils' in the depths of their homes. The bloom is a brilliant little sphere of light. Throttler kindly demonstrated the plant's other use to me. When the flower's light is released, it blinds the nuisance standing before one. Should the blinding light fail, stomping on their feet, throwing one's ale into their face, and beating upon the shins seems to be the Dwarven custom.
![]() Folly Flower |
Ships from Medenia have brought back a bloom full of blooms, vibrant and enthusiastic in habit and color. A tragic tale from that far-off land is attached to this bloom. The story goes that in the plains of Naom there lived a young man who loved a beautiful woman. This youth sought long and hard to find the perfect gift to express his love. He came upon this flower with its multitude of blooms, more than any other flower he had ever seen. He plucked the flower from the fertile plains and presented it to his love as a token of his affection. The lady began sneezing violently when presented this bloom, for its pollen was overflowing. The lady dismissed the youth without delay. Thus the plan earned the name 'Folly Flower'. It grows unplucked all over the plains now, for the tale attached to this plant taught the people of Noam that more is not always better.
![]() Kobold Tail |
The children of Undine sing a simple song about a pink fuzzy flower on purple leaf and stem common in the area: Once so vibrant and verdant green, The lovliest plant ever seen, Stained by the blood of the Caroun, Reddened under a crimson moon. Fear not, the forces of Loures will make safe the citizens of Undine yet. Perhaps then this 'Kobold Tail' flower will be renamed.
![]() Eidheann |
Medenia is a strange land. A plant commonly found around the Asilon region is used in a most peculiar way. It resembles what the tuatha called 'Eidheann', simply ivy. The vines are used in addition to a clasping of hands to signify a joining in life, love, or business. Any enterprise undertaken by two parties is sealed with the entwining of this 'Eidheann' plant around the clasped arms of the constituents.
![]() Cactus Flower |
Certain cactus of the deserts of Medenia bloom only for one short night. With such a short window for reproduction, they bloom magnificent large blossoms. These opulent blooms emit a strong and sweet aroma in their desperate attempt to attract pollinators. Such extravagant beauty is rare, these 'Cactus Flowers' are prizes, indeed.
![]() Squirtweed |
With the recent use of Breath Rings, the bizarre world of underwater plants has become known in greater detail. A very strange plant that does not seem like it belongs under the sea grows there nonetheless. It produces small berries instead of blooms. The bulb where one would expect the bud to appear is instead filled with sea water. The water encased within jets out of the plant with the slightest pressure. More than this I cannot say, for all my specimens for study have been stolen by children who have dubbed the plant 'Squirtweed' for obvious reasons.
![]() Kabine Blossom |
A not well known blossom recently discovered in the new land of Medenia, it's told that the villagers of Noam could cure blindness with the essence of this blossom. It's uncommon appearance has brought the attention of many Temuairan herbalists. They believe that with time, they'll find new uses for such a blossom that, mysteriously, grows in the Desert of Fire.

Legend has it that a man high in the Court of Loures held the heart of a maid of the Castle. The maid was convinced this man shared the same feelings for her, for he showered her with gifts, flowers and poems charged with passion. Deochs passed and this forbidden love blossomed. The maid was drunk on love. She began to grow weary though, of hiding their happiness. Finally, she decided to confront the man with her troubles. He grew silent. His visits to her became less frequent. She began to worry. One day, the man suddenly charged into her chamber. He grabbed her, embracing her. Almost as suddenly as they hugged, the man stepped back. Taking a breath, he let her know that he was engaged to be married to a woman of high royal status from another land and had been engaged for well over a Deoch. Horrified, the maid asked 'But.. what about us?' Quickly, he pushed her to the floor, warning her never to mention their affair. 'There will never be 'us' ' he coldly stated. The heartbroken maid asked him why. Why had he toyed with her heart? He laughed slightly. 'There never was 'us' ' He was in it for the thrills. Playing with her hearts deepest emotions like an instrument, a hobby he could pick up and throw down as he pleased. The woman lay still on the ground, staring in disbelief. He walked over, knelt down, and kissed the top of her head. He left her quarters, not knowing nor caring of what would happen later that night. The heartsick woman tried to sleep. She tossed and turned. She cried... oh how she did weep. Finally she stood. Over to her tiny dresser she went. A vase of wilted flowers, the last gift from him to her, sat, mocking her. Closing her eyes, she opened the drawer. Feeling around, she found what she was looking for. In a few quick movements, she could feel the life pouring from her veins. Finally, she opened her eyes and on the flowers she found her gaze. Dazed, she laughed, noticing her blood had sprayed the flowers. 'There never was an 'us' ....' she murmured, as she fell to the floor. Morning came, the body was discovered. No one knew the reason of this suicide, except one man. He said nothing, of course. To top off the betrayal, he was married that day. And the bride was given a wilted bouquet.
